I love Texas for many, many reasons, and one in particular is the climate that allows for some of my favorite things to grow, like olives. The hill country of Texas is akin to the Tuscan region. Rolling hills, cypress trees, vineyards and groves of olives can be found. In fact, the hill country is nicknamed the "Tuscany of Texas". We visited the Texas Hill Country Olive Company, located in the adorable town of Dripping Springs, just outside Austin. It's a family owned, organic orchard. They've been operating nearly 10 years and are award winning.
Even though it can get very hot in Texas, during summer months, there's always a bit of a breeze in hill country, that makes it more bearable. This adorable lemony strapless jumpsuit from Anthropologie was perfect for taking a tour of the orchards. And combined a few of my favorite things, lemons and olives. This jumpsuit transports me back to Italy in particular. It really makes me miss the Amalfi Coast but with this little fashion piece, I can feel a little bit closer!
I could literally spend all day and even the night in an Orchard of Olives. Olive them! :) But it was time to head in to some much needed air conditioning and get down to business. Tasting all the different olive oils and balsamic vinaigrettes. We got pretty creative and mixed a few together. My favorite was peach balsamic with rosemary olive oil - yuuuuummmmmmm! Perfect salad dressing or marinade for fish, veggies or chicken. Summery, light and delish! After picking out our favorites and joining the club - because obv we would be needing replenishments monthly, there was shopping to do. I was very impressed with their selection of home and kitchen goods.
I've been to Italy and Portugal and seen the real deal in pottery and low and behold right here in a tiny town in Texas, you could find everything I didn't ship home. So that was a bonus - no shipping! and I was beyond thrilled to find beautiful dipping bowls handmade in Portugal. Happy dance!
They even have 2 very unique honey options! Fantastic! But wait, there's more.....you can order a gourmet lunch, glab a glass of Texas wine or Sangria and find yourself a rocking chair outside. Take in the beauty of the hill country and relax. You will feel like you are in a whole other country.....wait, I think that's the slogan for Texas Travel :)
